Position: Gemstone Buyer

Key Responsibilities
 Source, evaluate, and purchase gemstones (colored stones, pearls, etc.) based on design needs, quality parameters, and market trends.
 Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, cutters, and gem dealers globally.
 Negotiate pricing, payment terms, and supply agreements to achieve best value while ensuring quality and reliability.
 Stay updated on global market trends, pricing fluctuations, availability, and geopolitical factors affecting gemstone supply.
 Collaborate with the design, production, and quality assurance teams to ensure gems meet technical specifications.
 Manage inventory planning, budgeting, and reporting for gemstone procurement.
Qualifications & Skills
Essential:
 Minimum 5 years of experience as a Gemstone Buyer, Gemologist, or in a similar procurement role within the jewelry/luxury industry.
 Professional gemological certification (GIA Graduate Gemologist or equivalent).
 Deep knowledge of gemstone varieties, grading, treatments, origins, and market valuations.
 Strong existing network of reputable gemstone suppliers.
 Excellent negotiation, communication, and analytical skills.
 Ability to travel internationally as required.
Preferred:
 Bachelor’s degree in Gemology, Business, Merchandising, or a related field.
 Experience with ethical sourcing frameworks and supply chain transparency.
 Proficiency in inventory management software and Microsoft Excel.
 Fluency in more than one language (e.g., English, Mandarin, Cantonese) is a plus.
